Reviews
We were traveling from Texas to Savannah but after a very long drive and just short of our goal, we had to stop due to bad weather. At the gas station, they recommended and directed us up the hill to Jomax's. Tired and hungry, we walked in at around 5 pm with no expectations.
Guys this place is the real deal. While it is billed as a BBQ restaurant, they have salads, burgers, sandwiches, and other entrees as well. My burger was a delight- none of the fancy highbrow accessories folks use to dress up a burger these days, just two fresh made patties and American cheese on top. My mom ordered a loaded baked potato that came with a generous helping of chopped barbecue and dad had a grilled cheese sandwich that would pass for the ones that used to come from my grandma's cast iron skillet.
The folks there were really great. A car-full of 3 cranky folks whose combined age is over 250 years walked in and when we walked out we were laughing and joking. Faith in humanity restored! Further evidence that small family run restaurants continue to be the better choice for you and your soul.
People are very friendly. We ordered combi that you can choose two meats and sides. Pulled pork is pretty good. Brisket tastes good but dry. Ribs are just ok. None of them are that juicy. The sauce is unique and tasty, little vinegary which we liked it a lot. French fries and sweet potato fries are not the best. I think they used old oils to fry the French fries. Sweet potatoes sprayed with cinnamon sugar which I am not a big fan of it. French toast toasted with butter was the one I liked the most there
Wow! Walking in the door you a graced with the best bbq smell ever, then you order at the counter. We ate outside since we had our dog with us. It was nice pleasant breeze, and enjoyed everything. Fried green tomatoes 🤯 and the grilled chicken is so juicy. Defiantly worth the stop
Talk about goood spare ribs. I got a full rack. My dog Milo is having the grilled chicken. The place was clean abd service was fast. Lots of dessert treats available too. Friendly staff and excellent food. Thank yall.
Service was excellent.
Food mashed potatoes was instant and cold. Had ribs nothing special.
Atmosphere ok, but the blinds could use a good wipe down. Had dust and old food on them.
Over all nothing special wrote home about.
So good! I don't know what else to say. I had the brisket, mac n cheese, and potato wedges. All were so so so good. I agree with another reviewer that different sauces would be nice but everything was so good you wouldn't even need sauce. Portion sizes were generous and process are more than fair. I was with someone with a food allergy and they marked on the ticket for them to change gloves and the waitress spoke to the kitchen staff as she put our order in. We are from another part of the state but if I'm even remotely close again I'll be back.
Best thing was the desserts and the mac and cheese the brisket was very overrated. The ribs were terrible no seasoning. I asked it all their meat, sauce on it they said yes I should have known then not to get barbecue. They only offer one sauce and it's a very vinegary not good barbecue sauce.
It’s a Become a destination for us traveling from Atlanta to Savannah. The barbecue was great. The atmosphere is great just a great place to visit and eat.
